Specialising in Embroidered Textiles I graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin in 2004. Currently I am on a two year placement as Artist in Residence in Limavady College. This is part of the Craft NI “Making it” programme, supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. My work is primarily two dimensional, and has developed into incorporating painting and textile techniques into landscape-inspired metal works and fabric pieces.
My interest with the integration, contrast and manipulation of material and metal has evolved into exploiting textile techniques onto aluminium, combined with painting and etching elements. The medium allows for the varying qualities of light, atmosphere, essence, stillness or movement to be conveyed through the work. These are primarily suited towards commission/exhibition pieces.
The fabric works are inspired by a wide variety of sources within the wilder Irish landscape. Layers of hand painted and hand-dyed fabrics are fused together and reworked over in a variety of machine and hand-stitching techniques. These are often embellished with metal fragments creating lustrous highlights.
