In 2004 Alison Ormsby established AliO Designs, crafting design led, quality, exclusive hand made greetings cards and wedding stationery for sale through retail outlets, craft fairs and by private commission. Silk painting dominates the ranges; using hand painted, embellished and frayed pieces of pure silk. If greetings are added, they form part of the design and are hand written. A coloured envelope is carefully chosen to compliment the design.Born in Bangor, County Down, Alison studied Wildlife Illustration at Dyfed College of Art in West Wales and subsequently worked as a freelance illustrator specialising in the flora, birds and butterflies of Ireland. An exhibitor at the Royal Ulster Academy and Hilliard Society of Miniaturists, she won the Ulster Bank Perpetual Trophy at the final exhibition of the Ulster Society of Miniaturists in 1993. In recent years, Alison’s botanical paintings have been licenced for reproduction as greeting card and tapestry designs in the UK and USA.
The simple yet exquisite beauty, shapes and form within the natural world inspire Alison and she aspires to create quality contemporary cards, valued by both buyer and recipient. She hopes to grow her business without compromising quality and individuality.
