Greenwood Baskets - Basket Making
Alison Fitzgerald fell in love with willow more than 20 years ago when she came to live in Ireland. The beautiful, slender, brightly coloured stems, gently swaying in the winter sun, inspired her to weave.

Greenwood Baskets was established in Armagh a few years later and has recently moved to a workshop in Benburb, County Tyrone. An understanding of the natural qualities of willow is a feature of Greenwood Baskets. Strong, gently curving frame baskets look elegant and modern but are based on ancient traditional forms; log baskets and carrying baskets may have curved tops and spiral or zig-zag weaving; wandering willow wall designs suggest swirls of movement with smoothly bending willows, the tips folded back into leaf-like shapes. All have subtle blends of natural bark colours and are made to order. Baskets and wall hangings can be designed to customer specification.

Group classes and individual tuition can be arranged at the workshop or at other venues. For more information about courses and Greenwood Baskets please contact Alison Fitzgerald at the address below.
