I follow two strong directional aims of Sculpture and Design, where the common ground of Applied Art and craftsmanship allows me to create incredibly unique one off sculptural pieces and also to specialise in the design of contemporary limited production ceramic vessels. My sculptural work has evolved through my intrigue in themes surrounding the human condition, collections and relationships between groups of objects, where I use the varying expectations of the vessel form to explore the quality of internal and external space. I combine a number of hand building techniques in ceramics with areas mixed media materials, to enhance the varying qualities of texture and mood.
My new design label GFM Design, is an extension of my sculptural themes and aims to appeal to the senses and develop the tactile quality within my designs. GFM Design is a charismatic mix of curiosity and quirkiness displayed in my new decorative and functional ranges featuring bowls, bottles and bed warmers. They have a distinctive eclectic mix of texture, colour and form layered with visual images and text to enhance a strong essence of presence and playfulness.
